Whole School Curriculum

The two most important days of your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.”
Mark Twain

St Wilfrid’s RC Primary School is committed to meeting the requirements of the National Primary Curriculum. We endeavour to ensure our curriculum reflects our passionate belief in our mission statement where everyone, through hard work and service to others, can reach their full potential.

Our schemes of work reflect the content and challenge of the National Curriculum and are taught with consideration of all learners. We want our children to be excited by what they experience in school so that they become lifelong learners and have wonderful futures. We aspire to:

  • Teach children new skills and build on existing skills
  • Provide our children with facts and information through experience and education
  • Give them new experiences to open their minds
  • Encourage children to ask questions
  • Help them identify their talents/skills
  • Make them understand they are loved unconditionally by God and for them to realise their value and importance in the world
  • Make them believe that they will make positive changes in their community and in the wider world

We aim to teach our curriculum in an engaging, interesting and stimulating way. Each topic starts with a ‘WOW’ to immediately excite the children about their learning. A ‘WOW’ could be a trip to London, a visitor in school, an Egyptian day or a walk round Hulme Community Garden Centre. We want our children and their families to be able to bring knowledge of their community and beyond into the classroom.

Our curriculum continues to ensure that our children’s learning is both meaningful and benefits from a specific focus on the core requirements of the English, Mathematics and Science curriculum. Our curriculum also integrates new technologies, programming and media into school life with continuous emphasis on staying safe in a fast developing on-line world.

To achieve all our aspirations within the curriculum we rely on strong partnerships with parents, home and family and your continued support at home will strengthen the success of our curriculum and the overall development of your child.
